Being the first in my family to be born and raised in Chicago, my family always had high hopes in me. My response: “You’re both barely 5’5” at a buck fifty. There’s nothing high about these genetics.” As you can probably tell, I’ve always been on the skinnier side. If there was a small size on the aisle, I’ll try to go down a size for a better fit. If you’ve seen those movies where the bully picks up the small kid and turns him over for some lunch money to spill out, that was me. I even had multiple bullies in life try and test that on me. That’s how I came across my fitness path in life.

Knowing that I wanted to be bigger and stronger, I wanted to act on this. I started simple and basic exercises when I was 12, doing pushups, situps, and running for a couple of miles every week. I thought I was a beast, being able to do so many pushups and run for a good duration of time. It was never quite enough for me though. I always wanted more, especially with being a skinny kid that can do a lot of pushups. That’s like a dog being able to run.

Throughout the years of my own physical training, I’ve focused in on strength training as the main part of my training. The more I lifted, the stronger and better I became. I enjoyed strength training so much that I started to see my future in training others with my knowledge and passion. I began wanting to learn more about the human body and took some anatomy classes. I used this knowledge to take the course and become a certified personal trainer. I’ve worked at a big box gym for four years and as an independent trainer for one year, working with clients from all different types of backgrounds. There’s something deeply satisfying about helping someone push past their own limitations and learning more about their body. I want to use this knowledge to enhance lives that also want to become stronger and healthier. Being here at All Strength Training not only allows me to utilize my skillset for the health and wellbeing of everyone, but also allows me to grow as a trainer from all that I can learn from here. Thinking back to being the skinny kid that I was, I realized just how far I’ve come, and just how much more I have to left to go.
